The ancient Silk Road and the Maritime Silk Road, adorned by dancing sails and tinkling caravan bells, have borne witness to the bustling exchanges, harmonious coexistence and mutual learning of various civilizations. All countries along this route, including China and your country, are like brilliant diamonds stringed together by this beautiful bond. In 2013, President Xi Jinping put forward the Initiative of jointly building the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime SilkRoad, or the Belt and Road for short, giving the time-honored Silk Road renewed vitality.
In order to enhance the literary exchanges among the countries supporting the Belt and Road Initiative, the China Writers Association hereby proposes to set up a Literary Network of the Belt and Road, shortened as “the Network” or LNBR. CWA would like to invite literary organizations, institutions of literature publishing, literary research, literature publicizing and literary copyright protection as well as writers, translators, critics, publishers etc. to join this endeavour. Through literary activities, mutual visits, introduction, translation and circulation of outstanding works of literature, fostering young literary talents as well as advancing cooperation on literary copyright protection, the Network will facilitate international literary exchanges and cooperation, help explore the contemporary value of literature of participating countries and expand their influence.
For this purpose, China Writers Association has drawn up a draft of the Charter of the Literary Network of the Belt and Road, a tentative plan about the principles, basic functions, structure and mechanism of LNBR. In line with the spirit of consultation on an equal footing, China Writers Association expects your valuable suggestions for amending and perfecting it.
The path of literary exchange leads to the hearts of people. CWA hopes that on the platform of LNBR, friends of literary circles of all countries could expand heart-to-heart communication with each other, so that the beauty and power of our literature will transcend time and space and national boundaries and converge into a symphony of all civilizations.
